Custom Applications

Any standard product from Iridian's extensive line of thin film optical filters and coatings can be customized to suit unique needs and specifications. We are also adept at working closely with customers to define, design, fabricate and ship optical filters and coatings for many custom applications.

Most frequently, we manufacture these custom filters:

  • Gain flattening filters (GFF) used to smooth out unequal signal intensities over a specified wavelength range, typically after EDFA or Raman amplification. We have developed more than 100 different types of GFF.
  • Laser facet coatings for proper operation of semiconductor laser or amplifier facets; typically, anti-reflectance, mid-level reflectance or high-reflectance coatings. Iridian has established special programs to evaluate the performance of thin film filters on laser facets, working closely with customers to ensure appropriate materials optical constants are used and optimal filter performance is achieved.
  • Dual purpose filters for applications where more than one filter stage is required, combining both filter functions into one filter can be an advantage (e.g. GFF for one wavelength region and bandpass for a different region).
Iridian Custom Applications Advantage:

Iridian's proprietary design and deposition technologies result in optical filters and thin film coatings that outperform others in the industry. PrecisionSpectrum@IST, our thin film filter design and deposition process control software, supports the manufacture of both quarterwave and non-quarterwave structures. Our energetic deposition systems are used to fabricate thin films that are dense, robust and have relatively low stress levels. The resulting thin film filters have physical and optical properties that are ideally suited to the most demanding filter applications.
