N & C Glass, one of the leading manufacturers of glass and glazing products in the UK, is part of the wider Nicholls & Clarke Group, made up of businesses dedicated to the manufacture, distribution and retail of quality building products.
The largest independent company in the UK glass industry, N & C Glass prides itself on offering the best quality products to its ever-growing customer base. This commitment to quality is underpinned by investments in the best technology on the market, which led N & C Glass to our comprehensive range of laser marking solutions for glass.
As John Craddock, site engineer at N & C Glass, explains: “On a daily basis we mark glass with different symbols, to indicate that glass has been toughened, for example. We need reliable, efficient systems in place to do this and the lasers we use are an integral part of the process.”
To ensure the utmost efficiency and quality of its glass marking, N & C Glass invested in four CO2 lasers from Laser Lines, two 30 Watt Datalogic EOX30 lasers and two 10 Watt Datalogic EOX10s, with the second 10 Watt laser about to be installed on a Laser Lines-designed custom table. (The video below shows various Laser Marking applications from Datalogic.)
As John continues: “Not only are we extremely pleased with the consistency and quality of mark we can achieve, not to mention the reliability of the lasers, but the service we’ve received from Laser Lines has been excellent. From the initial meeting through to installation and beyond, nothing has been too much trouble, with the team at Laser Lines setting up the different marks for us as well.”
“On the one occasion that one of the 30 Watt lasers failed, the service engineer was out to us the very next day. Laser Lines installed a spare laser while our laser was sent for repair, meaning we were back up-and-running in no time. Laser Lines resolved what could have been a major problem for us, with minimal disruption to production.”
Dave Earl, technical sales engineer for our industrial lasers group, adds: “The longer wavelength of the CO2 laser makes it an ideal solution for glass marking. The Datalogic EOX lasers in particular are extremely reliable, as well as easy to install and integrate, making them the ideal choice for businesses such as N & C Glass who require state-of-the-art marking platforms.”
