Laser Lines
This week we have handed the blog over to one of our valued customers, Neal Croxford, director at DeBe Lasers, who tells us how his business makes use of our nLight Pearl diode lasers.
DeBe Lasers is primarily a design house. With over 40 years’ experience in the field of industrial lasers, we take conceptual ideas related to industrial lasers and find out whether these ideas can become a reality.
Once designed, we also have the capability in-house to turn these designs into advanced laser beam delivery systems, ideal for welding, marking, cutting, drilling and deposition, among other applications.
Due to the wide range of applications that come under the industrial laser umbrella, the diversity of projects we work on is amazing. This means that we really put technology to the test, complementing traditional applications such as using diode lasers as a pump source for a fibre laser, with more innovative and cutting-edge uses.
For example, we were approached by a company who wanted to illuminate at a long distance in infrared. This company had a very high-spec security camera that could, in theory, pick up a car number plate from 15km away in starlight.
However, if there was any cloud cover, the camera was rendered useless. They were using a bright white torch to try to overcome the issue but this clearly didn’t fulfil the clandestine nature of the brief.
Our solution was to take the nLight Pearl diode laser from Laser Lines, case it in a tool case and run it on a car battery, coupled to a custom-built delivery to focus the laser beam down to 3 metres up to 1km away, but still visible up to 30km away.
This is all controlled by a joystick, enabling the operator to zoom in and out and move around the scene, all while remaining undetected.
One of our preferred diode lasers to work with is the nLight Pearl. In fact, it’s often our first choice when it comes to designing and building systems.
It’s one of very few diode lasers available that has a low current requirement which means that the necessary electronics involved are much more straightforward and therefore much more reliable.
It’s easy for us to work with, proving easier to mount than other diodes. Ultimately, by incorporating the nLight Pearl into our designs, what results is a robust, cost-effective and long-lasting solution for our customers.
We have a great working relationship with the team at Laser Lines. We know we can rely on them for excellent quality products and service, supported by experience and technical knowledge.
At the same time, we’ve been able to help out Laser Lines with our design expertise, creating a mutually beneficial relationship for us, Laser Lines and our customers.
