This week’s blog is penned by our very own Dan Cort who reports back on the recent Photonex show in Coventry.
After a concerted effort by the organisers to make Photonex much more than a components show, this year’s exhibition certainly was a busy couple of days for the whole Laser Lines Photonics team. We’d booked our space at the show planning to catch up with a lot of familiar faces and we weren’t disappointed, meeting up with a great mix of visitors from the worlds of academia, research and tech manufacturing.
An informed audience
One of the great things about the visitors to Photonex is that they know their stuff. They’re at the show to explore the latest trends in scientific lasers and this makes for some really interesting, in-depth technical discussions for us.
This gives us the opportunity not only to demonstrate our 40-year heritage and experience in the scientific laser industry, but allows us to update people on the latest developments at Laser Lines. No matter how well-informed people are or how good our marketing is, you can always guarantee being able to surprise people with some facts about our product range that they don’t already know.
Some of the most interesting conversations I had during the show concerned the use of pulsed lasers for Raman spectroscopy, which some predict will replace continuous wave lasers in the typical Raman set-up within the next few years.
This is where our experience and knowledge of the industry stands us in good stead as not only can we discuss the here-and-now, but we can intelligently contribute to the debate on what the future holds in terms of R&D and potential technological advances.
Something for everyone
We were showcasing a whole host of solutions on the stand but of course, visitors are always drawn to the most-visually appealing lasers, even if they’re not suited to their particular area of interest. As we provide such a wide range of products, this works in our favour as we can typically offer a solution to meet the needs of customers, whatever their application.
As Photonex is the only show of its kind in the UK, it’s a great opportunity for us to meet up with as many of our customers as possible under one roof. It’s a great forum for us to get face-to-face feedback about our products. Our Cobolt lasers in particular were very popular with visitors, receiving consistently excellent feedback from all the users we spoke to at the show.
All in all, Photonex was a really interesting, vibrant show for us, giving us the chance to have genuine two-way conversations with members of the scientific laser community, discussing the industry as it stands today, with some intelligent future-gazing thrown in for good measure.
